Welcome to the Blog, Meet the Author

Hi, I’m Hannah, and welcome to my blog! I’m a Social Worker in homeless services, currently working at a non-profit organization that shelters homeless families. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 2024, and immediately began my dream career. I’m an emergency shelter case manager, which means I work with families who have been homeless as they enter our shelter for the first time. Many of my clients were sleeping in cars or outdoors before they came to me. While the job can be stressful, overwhelming, and sometimes sad, I absolutely love what I do and never want to walk away from it.

Since I was a child, I always had a soft spot for my homeless neighbors. My father told me I would cry any time we passed someone on the street and didn’t give them money, even if we already had. It was like as soon as I was old enough to understand the concept of homelessness I knew I wanted to do something about it. My ultimate goal is to open a homeless shelter - unfortunately, that’s an expensive endeavor that I cannot currently afford. However, I have never given up on that dream and do intend to execute it. Helping the homeless is my dream career, and I will continue to do it as long as the help is needed.

In July of 2024, I posted a video on Tik Tok about my experience searching for a new apartment. It was a disorganized, irritated rant about the cost of living, all the hoops we have to jump through to find housing, and the inevitable end result: soon, people won’t be able to afford to live anymore. I never expected this video to reach that far beyond my immediate friend group, but to my surprise, the video garnered nearly half a million views, tens of thousands of likes, and hundreds of comments. I gained over 6,000 followers from this off-handed rant, and dozens of people asked me questions about housing, homeless services, and my work. As much as I wanted to answer everyone, I don’t particularly enjoy making video content and I definitely don’t want to be a Tik Tok content creator! That's why I started this blog.

I created this blog to share my experiences like I did on Tik Tok, share information, and answer questions. You can read about my daily life as a Social Worker and the work I'm doing in my community for my homeless neighbors, as well as submit your questions or story requests. I want this to be a place of collaboration and connection for people like me. I hope we're able to accomplish that here, and happy reading!
